Three Sleeps until Canada!

It’s been a month now that I have been working with George at Alter Performance.  We had been unknowingly crossing paths at UCfitX gym since the beginning of the year and it was a chance meeting that brought us together. Turns out that while I was looking for a strength and conditioning coach George was looking for his first S&C client. I am super impressed with how well we have worked together.  The results I have seen in myself and my muscular strength and endurance has been incredible.

We have been doing a lot of work on the ski-erg and thanks to the Paralympics Australia Equipment Fund grant I received I have been able to train with my own erg in my garage. When George first told me that we were going to use 6x6min /2min rest as a weekly activity to track my improvement, I was excited but also knew it was going to be bloody tough.

4 weeks later I have:

– added 114m to my total distance
– improved my 500m pace by 14 secs
– have power increase from 99Watts average to 130.8Watts average
– strokes per minute have gone from 40 to 54 average

Most importantly I have learnt how to focus on working consistently at an elevated HR for extended periods. I have learnt how using more power in my arms or legs makes a difference and I have learnt how to breathe when I feel like I am beginning to fatigue in order to maintain my performance.

Working on HR zones has been heaps of fun and with all the work we have also been doing with my single leg and core stability I feel more than prepared to do myself proud while we are competing at Canmore Nordic Centre in 2 weeks.

Also it’s only 3 sleeps until we fly out to CANADA!!!
