When Able Seaman Taryn Dickens thought she had a long migraine, she didn’t know her life was going to change.
In May 2019, she was diagnosed with degenerative cone rod dystrophy, a condition that covers the retinas and stops the eyes from functioning.
With no family history, it came as a surprise.

Taryn along with her guide Daniel Van Der Ploeg and the incredible sit skier, Matt Brumby, are embarking on a thrilling journey to Canmore, Canada on 10 November 2023.
Their mission? To proudly represent Australia and become internationally classified as the nation’s very first Para Nordic cross country skiers in their respective classes.
